Darwin City is the central business district of Darwin, the Northern Territory's capital, set on a harbour peninsula at the Top End of the continent. The compact inner suburb holds the seat of Territory government and the city's main commercial core, alongside the Esplanade, Bicentennial Park and the redeveloped Darwin Waterfront Precinct, with its restaurants, wave lagoon and convention centre. The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens lie close by. Founded as a settlement in the 1860s, it sits firmly in Australia's tropical north. The area is the traditional country and waterways of the Larrakia people, the recognised Traditional Custodians of the lands in and around Darwin.

Nightcliff is a coastal suburb of Darwin, about 10 km north of the city centre on the shore of Darwin Harbour. It is one of the northern suburbs' best-known recreation spots, built around the Nightcliff Foreshore — a popular walking and cycling path along low sea cliffs — together with the Nightcliff jetty, a swimming pool and the busy Sunday Nightcliff Markets of food, craft and live music. The suburb's name is usually traced to an 1839 landing by the crew of HMS Beagle, recorded as 'Night Cliff' on an 1869 survey map, though its precise origin has long been debated; the present spelling was formally adopted in 1948. Nightcliff lies on the traditional country of the Larrakia people.

Tennant Creek lies on the Stuart Highway in the Barkly region of the Northern Territory, roughly 1,000 kilometres south of Darwin and 500 kilometres north of Alice Springs. The Warumungu people have lived across the surrounding country for thousands of years and know the area as Jurnkkurakurr. The town grew out of one of Australia's last gold rushes in the 1930s and remains a hub for cattle stations spread across the Barkly. Visitors can trace that history at the Battery Hill Mining Centre, learn Warumungu culture at the Nyinkka Nyunyu art and culture centre, and detour to the granite boulders of Karlu Karlu, the Devils Marbles, just to the south.
