Brighton-Le-Sands, NSW

Brighton-Le-Sands is a residential suburb on the western shore of Botany Bay, in southern Sydney about 13 kilometres from the CBD in the Bayside Council area, in the St George district. It was named by the tramway pioneer Thomas Saywell, who developed a seaside resort here in the 1880s and named his estate after the English resort of Brighton. Once known as Seven Mile Beach, and then Lady Robinsons Beach, the area boomed after the railway reached nearby Hurstville in 1884. Today Brighton-Le-Sands is best known for its beachfront and its lively, Greek-influenced dining scene — sometimes dubbed 'Little Greece by the Bay' — along Bay Street. Lady Robinsons Beach and Cook Park line the foreshore, with a shared walkway and cycleway running along the bay.
