Robertstown, SA

By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·

Robertstown is a small town in the Mid North of South Australia, about 125km north of Adelaide, 23km north of Eudunda and 45km south of Burra. The area is the traditional land of the Ngadjuri people. Pastoral leases such as Anlaby and Koonoona were taken up in the colonial era, and as the land was subdivided in the 1850s a township grew, laid out in 1871 by the first postmaster, John Roberts, after whom it was named; it had earlier been called Emu Flats. The railway reached the town in 1914 and closed in 1990. Grain and sheep farming, road freight and a bakery sustain the district, and the Heysen and Lavender Federation Trails pass nearby.
