College Park, SA

College Park is a small, leafy residential suburb on the eastern edge of Adelaide, within the City of Norwood Payneham St Peters. Once known as College Town, it took its name, as did neighbouring St Peters, from St Peter's College, the long-established school in adjacent Hackney. Today it is among the most sought-after addresses in the city, its quiet, tree-lined streets, among them Trinity Street and Marlborough Street, lined with gracious period homes. The suburb was the birthplace, in 1880, of Lionel Logue, the speech therapist who would later become known for his work with King George VI. A handful of heritage-listed buildings survive along Payneham Road, including the landmark Bon Marche building, a reminder of the suburb's earlier commercial life.
