Eidsvold, QLD

Eidsvold is a town in the North Burnett region of Queensland, on the Burnett Highway about 73km north-west of Gayndah and 411km north-west of Brisbane. It lies in the country of the Wakka Wakka people and takes its name from Eidsvold Station, which in turn honoured Eidsvoll in Norway, where the Norwegian constitution was signed in 1814. Thomas Archer took up the pastoral run in 1848, and the discovery of gold in 1887 brought a rush, a post office and a proclaimed goldfield. Cattle later became the mainstay, and the town styles itself the 'Beef Capital of the Burnett'. The R.M. Williams Australian Bush Learning Centre and a historical museum draw visitors.
