Exeter (Tas.), TAS
By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·
Exeter is a small town in the West Tamar district of northern Tasmania, about 24km north of Launceston. It serves as a centre for a productive rural area on the western side of the Tamar Valley, a district known for its orchards, dairy and beef cattle, fruit growing and sheep. The town's landmark is the Exeter Methodist Church, a timber building completed in 1861 and said to be the oldest Methodist church in Tasmania. Nearby Brady's Lookout, a few kilometres to the south, takes its name from the colonial-era bushranger Matthew Brady, who is said to have used the high vantage point to watch the road below. Today Exeter is a quiet service town for the surrounding farms and orchards.
