Lindfield, NSW

By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·

Lindfield sits on Sydney's Upper North Shore, about thirteen kilometres north-west of the central business district within the Ku-ring-gai area. The suburb is known for its leafy California bungalow and federation-era homes in double brick and tile, with native bushland in the Garigal and Lane Cove national parks framing its edges. It was originally home to the Ku-ring-gai people. The name is said to mean a clearing in the lime forest and traces to a cottage that early landowner Francis List built here in the 1880s, likely after Lindfield in Sussex, England. The railway arrived in 1890, drawing professionals to settle. Former prime minister Billy Hughes lived in the suburb for decades, as did Wallabies captain Nick Farr-Jones and television presenter Karl Stefanovic.
