Premaydena, TAS
By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·
Premaydena is a small rural locality on the Tasman Peninsula in south-east Tasmania, lying about seven kilometres north of Nubeena, with the shore of Norfolk Bay forming its northern boundary. The area was once known as Impression Bay, where a convict probation station operated in the mid-nineteenth century, part of the network of convict stations spread across the peninsula in the era of nearby Port Arthur. A surviving colonial painting of around 1845 depicts the Impression Bay station on the bay's edge. The modern locality name was formally gazetted in 1967. Today it is a quiet farming and bushland district, away from the main tourist routes of the peninsula.
