Springwood (Qld), QLD

By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·

Springwood is a suburb in the City of Logan, set between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland. The wider district lies in the traditional country of the Yugambeh and Jagera peoples. The suburb was laid out as a planned development when the South East Freeway to Brisbane was on the drawing board, and it took its name from a rural property owned by Brigadier Sam Langford in the 1930s. Springwood State High School opened in 1977, and the suburb grew into a busy commercial centre, known for its car showrooms and the Logan Mega Centre, with planners later proposing it as a future regional hub. On its edge lies Springwood Conservation Park, a pocket of bushland in a former quarry that forms part of an important koala habitat.
