Bridport, TAS
By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·
Bridport is a seaside town on the north-east coast of Tasmania, set on Anderson Bay about 63 kilometres north of Launceston. Its name comes from Bridport in Dorset, England, and a post office opened here in 1882. Long a favourite holiday and fishing spot, the town's population swells over summer as visitors come for its sheltered beaches, boating and coastal reserve. In recent decades Bridport has also become a destination for golfers, thanks to the nearby Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm, two acclaimed links courses laid out among the dunes along the coast. Commercial and recreational fishing remain part of local life, and the relaxed waterfront setting makes it a popular base for exploring Tasmania's north-east.
