Nannup, WA

Nannup is a small timber and farming town in the South West of Western Australia, set on the Blackwood River south of Balingup. The district lies on Noongar country, and the name is thought to come from a Noongar word, variously recorded as meaning a stopping place or a place of parrots. Timber-getting and dairying built the town from the late nineteenth century, and the surrounding karri and jarrah forests still frame it. Nannup is perhaps best known today for its festivals, including a long-running music festival and a flower and garden festival each spring, which draw visitors to its quiet streets, riverside walks and the rolling farmland of the Blackwood Valley.
